'Every transport link' now in Google Maps

Thu, 15 May 2014

TECHNOLOGY giant Google has updated its official Maps app to include every transport link in Great Britain for the first time. The app has, until now, covered London and some areas of south-east England in terms of transport links, but this new update expands to the rest of the country as well as Scotland and Wales; including every bus, tram, train and ferry route available. David Tattersall, product manager for public transport in Google Maps, said: "This is the single largest and most comprehensive update we've ever done to our public transport coverage anywhere in the world, so it's something we're really proud of.

Swansea Metropolitan University degree show 2009

Fri, 24 Jul 2009

Graduates from Swansea Metropolitan University, based on the South Wales coast, exhibited their final year BA and BSc Automotive Design projects at the National Waterfront Museum recently. A relative newcomer to automotive and transport design - this being only the second BA graduate cohort to graduate - the three-year course at Swansea Metropolitan yields a high standard of work, which has received positive industry support in recent years. With projects ranging from the slightly avant-garde to high-quality next generation or niche vehicles, the students were encouraged to select a philosophical direction that they were passionate about yet also suited their desired future career aspirations.

Fitness-focused autonomous vehicle pedals to victory in Interior Motives Design Awards

Wed, 01 Oct 2014

Earlier tonight, on the eve of the first Paris Motor Show press day, the world's top designers and automotive journalists assembled at L'Espace Clacquesin in Paris to witness sponsors Ford and Volkswagen announce the 2014 Interior Motives Student Design of the Year: ‘Life Cycle' by Jason Chen and Dirk Wan of the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, USA. Launched in January of this year and themed ‘Beyond Styling: a Design for Life', the competition asked students to create projects around three diverse but specific briefs: ‘Beyond Autonomous', which posed the question of what would happen if we were to combine the latest developments in computing and robotics with automobile design; ‘An Interior for Life', in which students were asked to focus on one feature or element of a car's interior and adapt it for dual use in a user's ordinary life; and ‘Pickup Truck of 2030', which challenged the young designers to extrapolate what the future might hold for this popular and versatile mode of transport. This year's contest attracted more than 200 entries from students based at 57 schools in 24 different countries.
